The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) launched a 16-week pilot initiative, titled the Technology Development Programme, under the JSE's SME Rise banner on September 30, 2026. The initiative targets 10 technology-focused small and medium-sized enterprises across South Africa operating in the health, agriculture, and financial technology sectors. Rather than providing direct grant funding, the program centers on business development, investment readiness, pitch refinement, technology commercialisation, and establishing connections to capital markets.

Structuring Readiness and Market Exposure Participating businesses undergo structured diagnostics and growth planning designed to transform operational innovations into bankable enterprises. Throughout the four-month timeframe, each cohort member works toward compiling a funding-ready pitch pack alongside refined commercial plans.

Key components delivered through the 16-week curriculum include:

Business Diagnostics and Planning: In-depth evaluation of current operational structures and the formulation of clear growth strategies.

Commercialisation and Pitching: Tailored guidance on technology commercialisation and constructing investor-focused pitch packs.

Market Access Days: Dedicated sector-specific engagements bringing founders into direct contact with prospective institutional capital providers.

Pathways to Public and Private Listing Capital To facilitate long-term growth, qualifying participants who fulfill necessary requirements may receive screening for JSE Private Placements the exchange's digital platform for unlisted capital raising or AltX, the JSE's dedicated board for high-growth small and medium enterprises.

By creating structured entry points for technology enterprises, the joint effort aims to strengthen early-stage funding pipelines and support scalable businesses within South Africa's broader economic growth sectors.
