Endeavor Catalyst has raised $320 million for its fifth fund, the largest in its history, and African founders are part of the pool it draws from. The fund was oversubscribed and takes the firm's assets under management above $850 million, according to TechMoran's Ronald Bwire, who reported the close on 24 October 2026.
Endeavor Catalyst is the venture arm of Endeavor, the global network that selects and supports high-growth founders. Its model is different from most funds, and that difference decides which African startups can actually get its money.
How Endeavor Catalyst invests
The fund does not lead rounds. It follows. According to TechMoran, Fund V plans to back up to 150 companies, usually writing cheques of $1 million to $3 million alongside institutional investors. Its share is capped at about 10% of any financing round.
To qualify, a company must meet two conditions:
- Its founders must have been selected into Endeavor's entrepreneur network.
- The company must raise an institutional-led round of at least $5 million.
That makes Endeavor Catalyst a later-stage, rules-based co-investor. It is not a source of first cheques for seed-stage startups.
Where Endeavor Catalyst's money goes
About 90% of its investments are outside the United States, with Latin America the largest region. In Europe, the fund made 12 new investments in the first half of 2026, compared with 14 in all of 2025. Focus areas include deep tech, foundational AI, cloud infrastructure and repeat founders building AI applications.
African and MENA companies in the portfolio
TechMoran lists several companies from Africa and the Middle East among its holdings:
- Egypt: Blink, Nawy and Thndr
- Morocco: Chari
- Pan-African fintech: Flutterwave
- Mobility: Moove, named among Fund V portfolio companies
- Gulf: Gathern and SILQ in Saudi Arabia, Tarjama in the UAE
Since it launched in 2012, Endeavor Catalyst has invested more than $500 million in 437 companies across 44 markets. TechMoran reports that 83 of those companies have reached valuations of at least $1 billion, with 39 exits and 11 IPOs. The firm expects to deploy another $25 million to $30 million before the end of 2026.
Who put money into Fund V
About 400 limited partners joined the fund, including founders of Nubank, Revolut, Checkout.com, Snowflake and Careem, along with Reid Hoffman, Bill Ackman and Prosus. Around 30% of backers are entrepreneurs from Endeavor's own network. Managing partner Allen Taylor and managing director Jackie Carmel lead the fund.
That founder-heavy base matters for African startups. A cheque from Endeavor Catalyst often comes with access to people who have built and scaled fintech and marketplace companies in other emerging markets.
What this means for African founders
The new fund arrives as African startup funding recovers. Nigerian startups alone raised $635 million in the first nine months of 2026, as we covered in our Nigeria funding report, but a large share of that came from a handful of big deals. A follow-on investor like Endeavor Catalyst adds to the pool for exactly those larger rounds.
Who should pay attention
- Founders raising $5 million or more with an institutional lead already in place.
- Companies already in Endeavor's network, or founders who could apply for selection in markets where Endeavor operates.
- AI and infrastructure startups, given the fund's stated focus.
Who should not count on it
- Pre-seed and seed startups, since the $5 million minimum round rules them out.
- Founders looking for a lead investor to set terms, because Catalyst only co-invests.
The bigger picture
Endeavor's network now counts more than 3,100 entrepreneurs in more than 50 countries. For African founders, getting into that network has always been the harder step, and it is now the gate to a larger pool of follow-on money.
The open question is how much of Fund V will reach Africa. TechMoran's report does not give a regional split beyond the fact that Latin America is the largest market. African founders who meet the criteria now have one more investor that can join a big round, but they will be competing for its attention with companies across 44 markets.
